CBF Virginia Oyster Restoration

Event Details

This event is for current Virginia Oyster Gardeners only and requires registration.
Registration closes June 16, 2022.

It's time for Virginia oyster gardening roundup events! Thanks to your hard work, your mature oysters are ready to be transplanted to a sanctuary reef, where they will continue to grow, spawn, and help jump-start local oyster populations.

This year you do not need to register for a specific timeslot for the oyster gardening round-up. Please feel free to come by anytime during the hour-and-a-half event time to drop off your mature oysters and pick up new batches of spat-on-shell for the year. So that we have all the supplies ready for you, please register as follows:

  • Purchase the total number of new batches of spat-on-shell that you want (includes oysters ONLY, no cages included).
    • Each batch has a program cost offset fee of $25.
    • For ease of event management, CBF prefers that oyster batches are pre-paid paid online through this registration process. For check/cash payments, you must have exact change at the event. Credit card payments will not be taken at the event.
  • Select the total number of new cages that you need (includes new cages ONLY). There is no cost for additional cages, but you must reserve them during online registration.
  • If you are just returning your mature oysters and not continuing as an oyster gardener, please register for Drop Off Only.

During registration, you will be required to enter the latitude and longitude of your oyster gardening location. Follow these simple instructions to find that information on Google Maps.

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps (maps.google.com).
  2. Enter the address of your oyster gardening location in the search field.
  3. Right-click on the location. This will open a pop-up window. You will find your latitude and longitude in decimal format at the top. For example, 39.04660, -76.47935. The first number is your latitude. The second number is your longitude.
  4. During registration, there will be one field for latitude and one field for longitude.

On the Google Maps mobile app

  1. Enter the address of your oyster gardening location in the search field.
  2. When the location comes up, press your finger on the location. The latitude and longitude will come up in the search field, but abbreviated.
  3. Press your finger on the search field and it will show the complete data.
