School Leaders Explore Sustainability

Open to all school leaders and administrators in DC, MD, VA, PA, WV.

School leaders across the watershed are invited to join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for a three-day immersive exploration of the Bay and the unique waterman community of Smith Island. Through hands-on experiences, school leaders will explore the positive effects that environmental education has on mental health and well-being, student engagement, and the development of twenty-first century skills. Participants will design a successful school program that utilizes and benefits their local environment, promotes environmental literacy, and boosts academic achievement. Join us on the Chesapeake Bay to network, learn about the Green Schools Program certification, and collaborate with other education leaders from around the watershed.

Length & Location: Three-day, two-night residential experience at CBF’s Smith Island Environmental Center for consecutive days of field-based, whole-group, outdoor investigations.  Ferry departs Crisfield, MD at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 24, 2023, and returns no later than 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.
Cost: No fee due to support from the Doherty Foundation.
Credit: Upon successful course completion, participants are eligible for continuing education credit or contact hours. See details on the Professional Learning Credits page.
Orientation Date: A virtual orientation will be hosted one week prior to the course start; link will be provided.
