Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation for a day of reef ball building! Reef balls are hollow, concrete domes pocked with holes that are used to create vertical structure habitat for oysters and many other species. Volunteers will assist CBF staff by assembling and disassembling fiberglass molds. These reef balls provide instant habitat when placed into the water, which only improves once oysters attach themselves to the structure creating a true reef. Oysters are not only incredible filters in the Bay and its tributaries but they provide beneficial habitat to many other aquatic organisms. These reef balls will be deployed on a designated restoration site at a later date.

This activity involves kneeling, lifting and bending.
