Project Overview:
Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Hampton Roads Urban Restoration Team as we install a 718-foot living shoreline at the Mallard Point Association along the Hampton River. This project will create 3,312.75 square feet of oyster habitat, enhance or add 15,946 square feet of low- and high-marsh wetland habitat, and convert 15,774 square feet of turfgrass into a native vegetated buffer. The living shoreline installation will take place spring of 2027.
A special shoutout to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Blocker Foundation, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and other private donors for supporting this effort, as well as all of our wonderful partners from the Living Shoreline Collaborative.
Volunteer Work:
Over two days, we will bag 600 basalt shell bags for the Mallard Point Living Shoreline Project, which involves creating a 718-linear-foot living shoreline along the Hampton River.
We are also looking for volunteer assistance with several other aspects of the installation process. For more information about the other dates and various steps involved, please visit the project page. Please note that participants must be 18 years or older to volunteer.
