This six-week program includes five virtual sessions, held Tuesdays via Zoom from 6:00-7:30 p.m. and a graduation celebration at CBF's headquarters in Annapolis, as well as two optional in-person field trips for hands-on learning.

Are you passionate about the Bay and want to learn how you can make a difference? Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Volunteers as Chesapeake Stewards (VoiCeS) program this fall! Sessions are professionally taught by CBF staff and include topics such as pollution, fisheries, oyster restoration, regenerative agriculture, and more. To graduate, participants must attend at least four online sessions and complete required assignments. Graduating participants receive certification as a Chesapeake Steward and are invited to join CBF’s team of Clean Water Captains.

SPECIAL TOUR: AlexRenew
October 22, 2025

Join CBF at AlexRenew, the wastewater treatment authority for Alexandria and Fairfax County. We will get a tour of the facilities and presentation on the largest infrastructure project in the City of Alexandria. RiverRenew, includes a deep tunnel and new sewer facilities designed to prevent millions of gallons of combined sewage from polluting Alexandria’s waterways during rain events. Captured flows will be delivered to AlexRenew, where they will be treated before being returned to the Potomac River. Established in response to a 2017 Virginia law, the project will deliver cleaner, healthier waterways to Alexandria by July 1, 2026. About 6 percent of Alexandria is served by a combined sewer system that dates to the 1860s. Combined sewers transport both sewage and stormwater in the same pipe. When it rains, the capacity of the combined sewer system is exceeded, resulting in overflows to Hooffs Run, Hunting Creek, and the Potomac River. Since these overflows contain raw sewage, they pose a risk to human health, degrade aquatic habitats, harm the Chesapeake Bay, and litter our shorelines. RiverRenew will prevent millions of gallons of combined sewage from polluting Alexandria’s waterways each year. This will improve the water quality of Hooffs Run, Hunting Creek, and the Potomac River.

Dive deep into a growing issue in our region: Data Centers. Data centers are large warehouse-like facilities that house computer servers. From streaming services to cloud computing to AI-driven technologies, data centers process and store the vast amounts of information that we rely on every day.
Nature Forward and CBF recognize the vital importance of data centers in our society. However, we also acknowledge the devastating impacts their massive energy, water, and land use can have on nature and people if data centers aren’t subject to proper oversight and public input.
