Open to teachers in Howard County, MD.

Spend three days immersed in the heart of the Chesapeake at CBF’s unique outdoor classroom in Tylerton, Maryland. Investigate the major Bay habitats of oysters, salt marshes, and underwater grasses. Learn about the regional culture and the people who call the Chesapeake home. Spend time discussing how to make the Bay come alive for your students. This learning experience is specially crafted for Howard County participants in the Watershed Report Card Program, Climate kNOWledge program, the Youth Climate Institute, and educators that teach Earth Space Science, Biology, and Environmental Science.

Length & Location: Three days of collaborative, outdoor learning at CBF’s Smith Island Environmental Education Center for a residential experience where dorm-style housing, meals, and ferry transport are provided. Arrive in Crisfield, MD at 12 p.m. on June 25. The ferry will return you to the marina no later than 2 p.m. June 27.  

Course Credit: Upon successful course completion, Maryland teachers who participate in a course for fewer than five days can request course documents to apply for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit through MSDE. See details on the Professional Learning Credits page.

Orientation: Attendance at one virtual orientation is required prior to the course. Orientations are hosted at 7 p.m. on May 22, June 12, and July 24. Meeting links will be provided.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made before June 1 will receive a full refund minus a $75 processing fee.
