We're hosting this planting over two days. If you would like to register for April 22, click here.

Join CBF for an Earth Day tree planting in the Catoctin Creek watershed in Middletown. We'll plant more than 1,000 native trees and shrubs on six acres to protect the Middle Creek tributary to Catoctin Creek, which flows into the Potomac River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay

These trees help improve water quality, reduce downstream flooding, and sequester carbon to help mitigate climate change. The REED Center is practicing agro-forestry, therefore the plant species are super diverse with many having edible components. Come learn about regenerative agriculture and its role in mitigating climate change, and improving water quality and healthy soils for the next generation of farmers.

All holes will be pre-drilled, so getting trees in the ground will be a smooth and easy process, but this is a big planting so the more the merrier! This event is suitable for families. Plan to dress for the weather, as this event is outdoors and will be held rain or shine. Bring shovels, work gloves, a reusable water bottle, and lunch. We will have a limited number of clean gloves and shovels available at the site.

Research will be conducted throughout the planting area and educational opportunities may be available through the Center. This is Phase 3 of an overall plan to reforest 20 acres.

The Center is at the base of South Mountain and in close proximity to the Appalachian Trail.

Funding for the planting is through Maryland Department of Agriculture and WGL Energy and its Carbon Reduction Funds.
