Join us for CBF's adult education program, Volunteers as Chesapeake Stewards, or VoiCeS, hosted in Washington, DC. This class is open to residents of DC and its metro areas in Maryland and Virginia.
This intensive multi-week, in-person program is held on six consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:00-8:00 p.m., running from October 2 to November 6, 2024. Participants are expected to attend at least five of the six sessions.
CBF created the VoiCeS program in 2004 to reach out to local volunteers and their communities and create a deeper understanding of the Bay and the efforts to restore it. VoiCeS is CBF's most in-depth adult education program available to its members and the public.
The course will feature different speakers each week who are experts in their field. We will learn about a variety of topics impacting the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers and the greater Chesapeake Bay watershed. There will also be field experiences offered on Saturdays.
VoiCeS participants who attend all 6 classes, 1 field experience, and complete 10 volunteer or advocacy hours will receive CBF's designation as "Chesapeake Stewards."
Agenda:
- Session 1: Welcome to Your Watershed: Speakers include CBF and Anacostia Watershed Society
- Session 2: Urban Stormwater: Speakers include the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and Chesapeake Stormwater Network
- Session 3: Environmental Justice: Speakers include CBF and Anacostia Parks and Community Collaborative
- Session 4: Emerging Concerns: Data Centers, Microplastics, and Menhaden
- Session 5: Agriculture for the Future: Regenerative Ag and Urban Farming
- Session 6: Life After VoiCeS: Your Story and Community Advocacy
Field Trip: Saturday, October 12: Boat trip and discussion at Anacostia Park with Anacostia Watershed Society and Friends of Anacostia Park
