Learn about regenerative agriculture and the role it plays in mitigating climate change and improving water and soil quality for the next generation of farmers.

We will be planting 2,000 trees and shrubs on a farm along 10 acres of stream to filter cornfield runoff that would feed into the Broad Run. Broad Run is a nine-mile-long stream that flows into Catoctin Creek, and then into the Potomac River, eventually reaching the Chespeake Bay. The location is also less than one mile from Gathlund State Park and the Appalaichian Trail.

The owner of this farm will be converting five acres of his cornfields into permanent diverse cover for pasture, as well as installing a fence to keep their cows out of the headwater stream. Additionally, this farm is in a permanant Agricultural Easement though the state's Rural Legacy Program.

This event is suitable for adults and families. An outdoor event, it will take place rain or shine, so please plan to dress for the weather! The holes for the trees will be pre-augered to ensure that getting the trees in the ground will be smooth and easy! Please bring a shovel, work gloves, a reusable water bottle, and lunch. There will be a limited number of clean gloves and shovels available at the site.
