Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as we construct a bioswale and plant native plants at Sherwood Forest Elementary School. Bioswales are long channels or trenches that are designed to reduce polluted stormwater runoff and provide additional habitat for pollinators. The native plants will provide shade, stormwater control, and habitat. All are welcome! Minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
This event will take place over four days. Join us for any or all of them:
- Tuesday, March 21 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (bioswale construction day 1)
Top grass layer removal (shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow) - Wednesday, March 22 from noon - 5 p.m. (bioswale construction day 2)
Rough grading and trenching the swale (shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow) - Thursday, March 23 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. (bioswale construction day 3)
Fine grading and placing of river rock (shovel, rake, and wheelbarrow) - Friday, March 24 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. (planting day)
