Join CBF for a tree planting in Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary in Prince George's County. We'll plant more than 1,000 native trees and shrubs on seven acres of state park land in the Patuxtent River Watershed.

These trees help improve water quality, reduce downstream flooding, and sequester carbon to help mitigate climate change. Come learn about regenerative agriculture and its role in mitigating climate change, and improving water quality and healthy soils for the next generation of farmers.

Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary is the only wildlife sanctuary operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. It is the wintering ground for several thousand Canada geese, the largest concentration on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay.

All holes will be pre-drilled, so getting trees in the ground will be a smooth and easy process, but this is a big planting so the more the merrier!

This event is suitable for families. Plan to dress for the weather, as the event will be held rain or shine. Bring shovels, work gloves, a reusable water bottle, and lunch. We will have a limited number of clean gloves and shovels available at the site.

Funding for the planting is through Maryland Department of Agriculture and WGL Energy and its Carbon Reduction Funds.
