Are you wondering how our work on land connects to our work in the water? Are you curious about what happens to the oyster shells collected at the recycling bin by the front entrance of CBF's Clagett Farm? We are inviting you to come volunteer and learn with us at our Maryland Oyster Restoration Center. Nestled on Parish Creek in Shady Side, Maryland, you will get to see how CBF is working to restore oyster habitat in tributaries throughout the state. Get up close and personal with baby oysters (spat) and see where the restoration process begins. We will be participating in hands-on activities to include shell shaking, shoveling, and moving shell bags around in tanks.
The Farm to Bay Series is meant to highlight the work of two active programs within CBF. At Clagett Farm, our goal is to use farming methods that are truly sustainable both economically and environmentally. Our Oyster Restoration Center offers residents the tools and information needed to help restore native oysters, Crassostrea virginia, to the Chesapeake Bay. During the session you will learn about the environmental challenges that drive our work and how we are working to save the Bay by land and water.
